Steven Ledesma turned in his fourth straight solid outing on the mound Thursday and SBCC scored five times in its last two at-bats to knock off Ventura 8-4 in a WSC North baseball game.

Nicholas Allman went 4-4 and Andrew Cosgrove was 3-5 with a two-run double in the ninth for the first-place Vaqueros (9-10, 6-4). Ventura fell to 11-10 and 5-5.

Ledesma, a 6-4 right-hander from Ventura High, gave up three runs on seven hits in seven innings to improve to 4-1. He struck out a season-high 12 with just one walk. He's fanned 32 in his last three games with a 1.88 ERA.

The Vaqueros broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the eighth. Morgan Lomax scored on Wesley Ghan-Gibson's fielder's choice and the Vaqueros added two unearned runs when Chris Smutny reached on an error with two outs.

Davis Messer came on with runners on second and third and one out in the eighth with a run already in that cut the lead to 6-4. He intentionally walked Joey Sunia, then got Ryan Coker to hit into a 6-4-3 double play.

Messer got three pop-ups in the ninth for his first save.

The Vaqueros will play their third game in four days on Friday when they travel to Santa Maria to face county rival Hancock at 2:30 p.m.
