Vaqueros drop season finale to L.A. Pierce, 3-0

L.A. Pierce won a close first set 25-23 and went on to sweep SBCC 3-0 on Friday night in a WSC North men's volleyball match at the Sports Pavilion. The scores were 25-23, 25-18, 25-15.

The Vaqueros finished the season with a 5-13 overall record and 2-4 in the WSC North, good for third place. Pierce (13-5, 5-1) tied Moorpark for the conference title.

The Vaqueros hit .379 in the first set but just .105 for the match. Brandon Oswald topped the Brahmas with 14 kills and a .357 percentage.

Sean Reynaert led the way with nine kills. He was one of five sophomores who played their last match for the Vaqueros. The others were setter Jonathan Baldwin (21 assists, 5 digs), libero Matt Bohorquez, middle blocker Jarrod Jordan and outside hitter Jackson McDonough.

Reynaert is second in the WSC North and fifth in the state with 215 kills for the season. The 6-6 right-side hitter from Belgium finished his two-year career with 360 kills, 124 digs and 90 blocks.

"This wasn't the way we wanted to end the season," said first-year coach Jon Newton. "Congratulations to Pierce as they played a good match. I'd also like to thank the sophomores who put a lot of time and effort into this season and our program."
