Pesniak/Mitchell secure winning point in 5-4 thriller

SBCC was tied 4-4 with Ventura on Thursday at Pershing Park and it all came down to the No. 3 doubles.

Hanna Pesniak, a freshman from Belarus, and Maddie Mitchell, a freshman from Houston, Texas, outlasted Keressa Garland/Tricia McClain 8-6 to secure the Vaqueros' third straight women's tennis victory. SBCC is 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the WSC.

Katelyn Peyvandi, Pia Valtierra and Pesniak won singles points and the teams went into the doubles tied at 3-3. The Pirates took the No. 1 doubles and Josephine Pulver/Valtierra won an 8-4 decision at No. 2 to tie it at 4-all.

The Vaqueros will play at Bakersfield on Tuesday at 2 p.m.
