SBCC Starts Season with First Place Win at Larry Barrate Preview
VENTURA – The SBCC women's swim and dive team got out to a great start to the season at the Larry Barrate Preview last Friday, taking several top finishes to claim first place as a team with a score of 151.5.
"The team swam great. Training has been going well and I'm excited about our performances," head coach Chuckie Roth said. "We're ahead of where we've been in years past."
Freshman Isabella Urlando had an excellent Vaquero debut with four top-two finishes, including a 1:00.60 in the 100 backstroke that was five seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She also took second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.50.
Other highlights from the freshmen included Gabrielle Muehring placing second in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.99), Makenna Bloom taking third in both the 100 freestyle (56.62) and 50 freestyle (26.08), and Morgan Cederholm winning the 1-meter with a score of 213.45.
In the relays, the Vaqueros also took the top two spots in the 200 freestyle and finished second in the 200 medley.
SBCC will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 17 for WSC #1 at Allan Hancock.
