Beach Volleyball Advances to State Championship; Pairs Regional
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Santa Barbara City College beach volleyball won both matches in their Group D pool on Tuesday at East Beach to qualify for the 3C2A Championship.
The Vaqueros defeated Golden West College 4-1 in the first match. Sage Thorne-Thomsen and Madelynn Papia won both sets by a score of 21-18, while Lina Husek and Tana Long battled hard for their win, 21-14 and 22-20.
The duos of Madison Genasci-Charlotte Wilson and Carly Hanna-Brielle Smith were dominant, winning in straight sets to secure the first SBCC victory of the day.
Orange Coast College fought hard in the second match and pushed many games to three sets, but the Vaqueros prevailed 3-2.
Thorne-Thomsen and Papia won their match in straight sets before Husek and Long dug deep and won the third set of their match 21-9. Genasci and Wilson rallied in their third set to seal the win for SBCC.
The Vaqueros will face Fresno City and MiraCosta in Pool B at the state tournament, beginning May 8.
Starting Friday, the pairs of Thorne-Thomsen-Papia and Long-Husek will compete at the SoCal Pairs Regional at Mt. San Antonio College.
