El Camino starts fast, downs Vaqueros 7-1

SBCC surrendered six runs in the first inning on Tuesday and managed just five hits in a 7-1 baseball loss to El Camino in Torrance.

The Warriors won their third straight to improve to 7-5. The Vaqueros (10-2) dropped their second straight and have scored just two runs in the last 18 innings.

"It was very disappointing from the get-go," said coach Jeff Walker. "It's tough to win when you walk three of the first four guys and give up six runs in the first inning."

Left-hander Rich Alcala pitched one-run ball for eight innings with SBCC got its only run in the sixth when Cameron Jones and James Brakka were hit by pitches and Trey Barrett singled in Jones.

"They threw a left-hander and we couldn't make adjustments or didn't want to," said Walker. "We played like individuals today."

Justin Bruce (2-1) suffered the loss, giving up six runs on three hits and three walks in 2/3 of an inning. Stephen Magnuson went the next 5 1/3, allowing just one run on two hits, with four strikeouts and four walks.

In anticipation of the upcoming rain, Saturday's home game vs. L.A. Valley has been moved to Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m. The Vaqueros are scheduled to host El Camino on Thursday at 2 p.m.
