Vaqueros rout Oxnard 13-0 to move into first

SBCC piled up 10 runs in the middle innings on Tuesday and Lucas Jacobsen turned in six shutout innings as the Vaqueros rolled to a 13-0 baseball win at Oxnard in a first-place showdown.

The No. 5 Vaqueros (18-5, 11-4 WSC North) extended their season-best win streak to six in a row. No. 4 Oxnard, the defending WSC champ, fell to 16-5-1 and 11-4.

Matt Henderson went 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs and Matt Gimenez and Spencer Erdman had two hits apiece. The Vaqueros stole six bases with Erdman and Brandon Evans getting two apiece.

Noeh Martinez staked the visitors to a 2-0 lead with a two-run double in the second. SBCC added three in the fifth (two scored on errors) and blew the game open with a six-run seventh that made it 12-0. James Hill capped the six-run rally with a two-run double.

Jacobsen (5-2), a 6-5 freshman left-hander, went the first six innings, allowing no runs on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks.

"It was a great all-around team win," said fourth-year coach Jeff Walker. "Jacobsen kept them off the scoreboard and our offense was efficient. It's good to be in first place but we have to come out and win on Thursday to take the series from them."

SBCC collected 12 hits and eight walks. The Condors had four errors while the Vaqueros had none and turned three double plays.

 Santa Barbara will host Oxnard on Thursday in a 2:30 p.m. game at Pershing Park.
