The right-handed reliever played in 38 games with the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 2015 before being called up to triple-A Buffalo. He recorded a 2.03 ERA in 46 total appearances and notched 16 saves, all with New Hampshire. Opponents hit just .200 against him last season and he walked only 10 batters in his 57.2 innings on the mound.
McFarland, who went 15-6 in two years at San Jose State, has played in 179 games in Toronto's minor league system since signing as a non-drafted free agent in 2011. He has a 4.14 ERA and a record of 16-26 in 320 2/3 innings.
At 6-5 and 230 pounds, McFarland is a former football player. He played baseball for the Vaqueros in 2008-09, earning 1st-team All-WSC honors in 2009 after going 8-3 as a starter with a 3.09 ERA. He made All-WSC honorable mention as a reliever in his freshman year.

RHP Blake McFarland — McFarland has slowly climbed the ladder since signing with the Blue Jays as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He was outstanding in Double-A and Triple-A in 2015, and every one of his appearances came in the seventh inning or later. McFarland pitched in the Arizona Fall League in 2014. He will be 28 when the 2016 season begins.
