Football holds Banquet at Endless Summer

The 2014 Vaquero football team held its Awards Banquet on Tuesday at the Endless Summer Cafe.

Five Vaqueros received MVP honors. Running back Cedric Cooper was the Offensive MVP while safety Jacob Girgle (leading tackler with 70) and linebackers James Benedix and Jacob Pettit were the Defensive MVPs. Mitch Wishnowsky, the No. 6 punter in the state (39.8 avg.) who also did kick-offs, was voted Special Teams MVP.

Brandon Nicastro, Tyler Higby and Glenn Taylor received Coaches Awards. Justin Andrews was the top player on the Offensive Scout Team and Travis Butts was the best on the Defensive Scout Team.

Scholarship Awards were given to sophomores who will continue their academic careers at four-year schools. Matt Escobar received the Voorhees Family Scholarship, Sage Ritchie got the Stephen Gill Memorial Scholarship and Orion Prescott was awarded the Ian Brown Memorial Scholarship.

The Vaqueros went 7-4 this year and played in the Golden State Bowl, making their first bowl appearance in 17 years.
