Vaqueros take third in WSC No. 6; Andersen gets hole-in-one

Niels Andersen placed seventh with a 76 on Monday, guiding SBCC to third place in WSC men's golf tournament No. 6 at TPC Valencia.

Andersen scored a hole-in-one on the 188-yard, par-3 fourth hole. Trent Caraher and JB Jandro added 78s for the Vaqueros (62-28, 31-11 WSC).

Tournament host Canyons won its fourth conference tourney with a 373 total, six strokes better than Ventura. The Vaqueros were third at 391, followed by Glendale (397) and Citrus (402) in the eight-team field.

Jae Kim of Canyons and Jake Schultz of Glendale tied for medalist honors at 72.

"We haven't played this course and it's the kind of course where you're going to have some flare-ups," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "Most of our guys had a couple of bad holes. Overall, we're starting to play a little more consistently."

The 12-team Canyons Invitational was also held on Monday and the Cougars won that at 373. Ventura was second at 379, Orange Coast took third at 386 and the Vaqueros were fourth with 391.

The Vaqueros travel to Glendale on Monday to compete in WSC No. 7 at Oakmont CC, starting at 10 a.m.
