Men's Golf Earns Narrow Win at WSC #8
By Jimmy Friery
OJAI, Calif. – The Santa Barbara City College Men's Golf team won for the first time this season on Monday at Western State Conference (WSC) #8, edging out juggernaut Canyons by one stroke.
Hosted by Canyons—who had won every WSC round this season—at Soule Park Golf Course, the Vaqueros' 300 was better than Canyons' 301 and Ventura's 304.
Hugo de Mollerat du Jeu led the way. His 72 was tied for the best among all golfers on the day; Canyons' top golfer Anthony Nilson also finished at 72.
Max Cali (75), Brayden Mlodzik (76), and Aidan Watts (77) also made the scoresheet, each one stroke behind the other.
In five of the previous seven conference rounds, the Vaqueros finished in second place. Twice they finished three strokes behind Canyons—the closest margin. Thus, Monday's win was well-deserved and even more impressive given it was on Canyons' home course.
The Vaqueros finish the regular season 43-13. They head to Sundale Country Club in Bakersfield next Monday for the 36-hole WSC Championship.
