Echt Named Co-Coach of the Year, Five Players Honored on All-WSC Tennis Teams
By Jimmy Friery
The Santa Barbara City College Men's Tennis team has a lot to celebrate at the release of the WSC awards, with head coach Danny Echt being named Co-Coach of the Year and five players named to All-WSC teams.
Echt's second year at the helm was a rewarding one, sharing his first WSC Coach of the Year honor with Chris Tissot of Glendale.
Ada Guler and Daniel Truong were the representatives for the Vaqueros on the All-WSC First Team, just one of three pairs to be named on the doubles side. Both of them would also make it individually as Honorable Mentions for singles, with teammate Connor Schloemer.
Vaqueros #1 singles player Mauritz Seitz earned Second Team honors, as did Dominic Arnell. Seitz cruised through the WSC Tournament to the quarterfinals before winning a gritty superbreaker to get to the semis, where he fell to eventual conference champion Jean-Baptiste Badon. In the State Tournament, also the Ojai 122nd Annual Tennis Tournament, he was one of the final 16 players before a 7-5, 4-6, 4-6 loss ended his solid run.
UPDATE:
Mauritz Seitz was also named a 3C2A Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American, finishing in the top-10 of the final ITA national singles rankings and top-5 in the final ITA doubles rankings.
