12 Vaqueros make All-WSC; Fickerson is Coach of the Year
After winning the first Western State Conference title in at least 45 years, SBCC was well-represented on the All-WSC men’s track and field team.

The Vaqueros earned 12 spots, including six on the first team. Scott Fickerson was named Coach of the Year.
Vaqueros set 15 new marks on All-Time Top 10
Bas van Leersum, who won the first State individual championship for SBCC in 20 years, was a first-team choice in the 400 hurdles and 400 meters. He won both events in the WSC Finals at SBCC's La Playa Stadium and went on to capture Southern Cal and State titles i n the 400 hurdles. Van Leersum broke the school record in the 400 hurdles four times and set a career best of 52.20 in the State meet at the College of San Mateo.

ho took third in the State javelin, was a first-team selection, along with Luke McAllister (high jump); Marvin Magg (shot put, javelin, hammer, discus); John Morgan (shot put, discus) and Adam Grimmitt (3000 steeplechase).
Alex Heuchert, the fifth-place finisher in the State 1500, made the second team in the 1500 and 5000. Other second-team picks were Tyler Higby (100, 200, long jump); Bradley Apodaca (5000, 10,000) and Joseph Ochoa (shot put).
Honorable mention went to Phillip Skopnik (hammer) and Martin Montes (10,000).
