Coach Jones returns to alma mater

SBCC men's volleyball coach Matt Jones is returning to Harvard, where he was a star player from 2009-12. Jones, the all-time Crimson leader in kills (1,218) and aces (97), will be an assistant coach for the men's and women's volleyball teams.

Jones was the Vaqueros' head coach for the last three years, compiling a 30-27 record. The 2015 squad (12-7) had the most victories in 10 years.

"Matt did an outstanding job as our head coach and we are really happy for him to get this opportunity to coach at Harvard," said SBCC athletic director Ryan Byrne. "Matt is mature beyond his years and he provided an excellent experience and education for our men's volleyball student-athletes."

Byrne has started the process of hiring a new coach and the job is posted on SBCC's Human Resources website.

"We expect to conduct interviews in early June and have the new coach start in July," Byrne said.
