EL CAJON – The SBCC men's volleyball team won three extended sets in Saturday's road match against Grossmont, coming up big in the clutch to win the final two games, 20-25, 26-24, 22-25, 34-32, 18-16.
The Vaqueros (2-1) were led on offense by opposite Kevin Vonyokes' 18 kills (.341). Outside hitter Jack McManus also reached double-figures with 11 kills to go along with six digs.
Libero Nate Rogers racked up 16 digs and setter Carter Cottrell notched the Vaqueros' first double-double of the year with 28 assists and 10 scoops.
SBCC finished with 18 blocks, including a match-high seven by middle blocker Andre Doty. Opposite Isaac Marshall finished with nine kills and six blocks.
Santa Barbara was outhit .186 to .238, a stat which was offset by a 56-34 advantage in digs. The 34-32 fourth set was the first time the Vaqueros needed to go into the 30s to decide a set since 2019.
