EL CAJON, Calif. — The Vaqueros Men's Volleyball team recorded a pair of 3–1 victories Friday at the Grossmont Quad, defeating Palomar College and host Grossmont College.
In the opening match, the Vaqueros dropped the first set before rallying to defeat Palomar 22–25, 25–14, 25–23, 25–19. Santa Barbara hit .303 as a team, led by Mykolas Petritias with 16 kills on an efficient .696 hitting percentage and three service aces. Parker Dison added six kills, while James Walker-Ziegler contributed five kills and four block assists. Ayden Welch paced the offense with 19 assists as SBCC settled in after the opening set to take control of the match.
In the second match, SBCC again responded after dropping the opening set, defeating Grossmont 23–25, 25–22, 25–11, 25–22 to complete the day's sweep. The Vaqueros totaled 59 kills and hit .272 as a team, led by Keegan Hubbard's 12 kills on .786 hitting and Mykolas Petritias' 15 kills. Nick Schultz added nine kills, while James Walker-Ziegler chipped in seven kills on a .750 clip. Setter Ayden Welch directed the offense with 31 assists and three aces as Santa Barbara pulled away in the middle sets to secure the 3–1 win.
The Vaqueros return to action Wednesday, Feb. 25, when they travel to face Santa Monica College at 6 p.m. PST. SBCC enters the match 6–2 overall and riding a four-match winning streak, seeking to maintain momentum as they push into the thick of the season.
