SBCC sent four athletes to the 67th annual Mt. SAC Invitational on Friday and Sebastian Ramirez was the top finisher, taking 86th out of 183 runners on the 4-mile course.
Ramirez was timed in 23:36 and Lennie Nelson was 122nd in 24:38.
"We sent a small group of runners to get them an additional competitive experience while resting some others to focus on getting ready for the WSC Championships," said coach Scott Fickerson.
Arnulfo Basave ran 25:10 and Timothy Lyles was clocked in 27:17. Diego Leon of Hartnell won the race in 20:30. Canyons was the team champion, easily outdistancing Mt. SAC (89) and Hartnell (100).
"The men got out harder today and ran good tough races," Fickerson stated. "Arnulfo had his fastest time of the season. To do that on the hilly Mt. SAC course shows he's really rounding into fine shape. I'm proud of him!"
The Vaqueros will compete in the WSC Championships on Friday, Oct. 24 at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura. The men's race starts at 4:15 p.m.
