Heuchert is 4th at WSC; Vaqueros advance to So Cal Championships
Alex Heuchert placed fourth in the WSC Men’s Cross Country Championships on Friday and SBCC qualified for the Southern Cal Championships with a fifth-place finish at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura.
Alex Heuchert placed fourth in the WSC Men's Cross Country Championships on Friday and SBCC qualified for the Southern Cal Championships with a fifth-place finish at Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura.
Heuchert covered the 4-mile course in 22:03. Martin Montes posted a season-best finish of 20th in 23:19 and Ryan Sorenson was 25th in 23:25. Connor Fisher of Cuesta won the race in 21:02.
No. 1-ranked Canyons claimed the WSC title, edging Cuesta by a point, 41-42. SBCC was fifth with 132 points.
"Alex and Martin ran really great for us up front," said coach Scott Fickerson. "As a team, we got the job done to qualify for the So Cal Championships. We've got a lot of room for improvement and with added rest and moving to racing flats, I expect in two weeks that we'll see some really great results."
The Vaqueros will compete in the Southern Cal meet on Friday, Nov. 7 at Woodley Park in Van Nuys.
