SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The No. 21 Santa Barbara City College Women's Basketball team closed out the 2025–26 season on Friday night with a 73–49 victory over Cuesta on Sophomore Night at Robertson Gym, extending their winning streak to five games and finishing the campaign 21–7 overall.
It is the first time since the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons that Santa Barbara has finished with back-to-back 20-win seasons (22-7 in 2024-25). Their 10-2 conference record is also the best since the 2009-10 season. Fourth-ranked Moorpark was the only Western State Conference-North team to beat the Vaqueros this year.
SBCC was led by Kaylee Lawson, who scored 16 points and added three rebounds, while Milan Jackson contributed 15 points and two rebounds. Siena Hoban added 10 points and five rebounds, helping the Vaqueros secure the win via a balanced offensive effort in the season finale against Cuesta.
On the stat sheet, the Vaqueros dominated the game through efficient offense and disciplined ball control, shooting 32-of-75 from the field (42.7%) and dishing out 20 assists while limiting turnovers to just nine. SBCC converted 28 points off Cuesta's 29 turnovers and scored 44 points in the paint, building a lead that grew as large as 27 in the third quarter. Despite being outrebounded 44–35, the Vaqueros' balanced attack and bench contributions helped them maintain control throughout the contest.
Coach Sandrine Krul praised the team for an outstanding finish to the season. "What a great game, we ended conference in second place with a 10–2 record, and now we move onto playoffs," she said. "Playing our entire bench and holding Cuesta to 49 points while scoring 73 on Sophomore Night was amazing. I couldn't be more proud of this team."
Krul highlighted the team's balanced scoring, noting multiple players finished in double figures and key contributions came from three-and-four-point plays, along with strong rebounding. "We'll get back to it on Monday and be ready for playoffs," she said, adding that SBCC will likely host a home game on Wednesday. "This season has been hard work, with a strong non-conference and conference slate, and now we move into postseason play. Saying goodbye to our nine sophomores is bittersweet, but this team's performance was something special."
Like last year, the Vaqueros will probably host a first-round 3C2A playoff matchup on Wednesday evening in Rob Gym. The team's schedule will be updated as postseason information becomes available.
