Vaqueros are second; Sherpa is third in WSC No. 4

SBCC freshman Pratima Sherpa shot a 6-over 79 on Monday to tie for third in WSC No. 4 at Antelope Valley Country Club in Palmdale.

Alexa Bleth (81) and Paris White (85) took fifth and seventh place, respectively. White, playing in the No. 5 position, shot 85 and missed her season low by one shot.

Canyons won its fourth straight WSC tourney with 312 strokes and SBCC was 26 back in second at 338. The Cougars are unbeaten in conference play (20-0) and the Vaqueros are four games behind with a 16-4 mark.

Haruka Koda, a sophomore from Japan, led Canyons by capturing her third straight WSC medalist honor with a 1-under 72. The Cougars' Jessie Lin was second at 75 and Sherpa and Paige Heuer of Canyons tied for third at 79.

"It was a tougher course with some narrow holes," said SBCC coach Chuck Melendez. "We combined two of the tee placings (Red and Gold) to create the par 73. We played decent, although a couple of girls had tough days. Putting was difficult today and we need to work on our speed control."

The Vaqueros will compete in WSC No. 5 on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Rio Bravo CC in Bakersfield, starting at 10 a.m.
