Bartlett nets third and fifth at WSC Prelims
SBCC’s Nicole Bartlett finished third and fifth in the 1500 and 800, respectively, on Friday in the WSC Prelims for women’s track and field at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita.

The 1500 was the race of the day with a mere 43 hundredths of a second separating the top 3 runners. Glindyll Mancia won the race in 4:59.91 and her Glendale teammate, Lizette Gonzalez, was second in 4:59.98. Bartlett was a fraction behind them (0.36 of a second to be exact) in 5:00.34.
Bartlett clocked 2:23.97 in the 800 and advanced to the WSC Finals in both events. The WSC Championships will take place on Friday, April 25 at Antelope Valley.
Jessica Escalante placed third in the javelin final (four field event finals were held on Friday) with the fifth-best mark in school history (35.96 meters). The freshman from Dos Pueblos High qualified for the 100 final, after placing seventh in 12.74.
Samantha Wikmark got the ninth and final qualifying spot in the 100 in 12.95.
The top nine moved on to the conference finals in running events with the top 12 making it in the 1500.
Kodie Hebert was fifth in the javelin final (33.84m) and Hailey Brundy was seventh (29.84m). In the field event finals, the top eight scored points and the top six advanced to the Southern Cal Prelims.
Christina Khalil was sixth in the 110 hurdles in 17.55 and Alyssa Garrett was seventh in 18:.07.
Glendale grabbed the early lead in the nine-team competition with 56 points. Cuesta is second at 41 and the Vaqueros are sixth with 12.
