Schutze rallies to get 113th in State Championship

Camille Schutze stumbled early in the CCCAA State Championship women's cross country race on Saturday, then passed more than 80 runners to finish in 113th place. She was the only runner competing for SBCC.
Schutze, a sophomore from Nordhoff High, ran the 5K in 20:48. There were 211 runners in the field.
"She fell about 100 meters in and got up in about 200th place," explained coach Scott Fickerson. "She stayed focused in a tough situation and ran with the poise of a seasoned veteran. I'm very proud of her."
Aminat Olowora of Southwestern won the individual State title in 17:02, 44 seconds faster than the runner-up, Jenica Dodge of American River.
Glendale claimed the team title with 37 points, which was 80 better than second-place Hartnell (117) in the 27-team field. Canyons was third with 121.
