Chavira takes 26th in WSC, qualifies for So Cal Championships
SBCC’s Christy Chavira placed 26th in the WSC women’s cross country championships on Friday at Bakersfield. She covered the 5K course in a season-best 20:33 and qualified for the Southern Cal Championships in two weeks at Canyons.

Chavira, a sophomore from Righetti High, had a 48-second improvement on her time from last year on this course. It was the sixth-fastest time by a Vaquero on the course.
Brianna Valencia of Oxnard won the WSC title in 18:18. Glendale took the team title with 44 points, followed by Canyons (70) and Ventura (83).
Kelly Gardner was 77th for the Vaqueros in 25:11. Seline Keller was 78th in 25:27. All three Vaqueros posted season-best times.
Chavira will compete in the Southern Cal Championships on Friday, Nov. 3 at Central Park in Saugus.
