Bio
Ryan Graff is in his second year as the lead play-by-play voice of the Vaqueros and as an Assistant Sports Information Specialist for the Santa Barbara City College Athletics Department.
Graff can be heard on the call of nine SBCC sports — men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and soccer as well as baseball, softball and women’s water polo — on the Vaquero Broadcasting Network. He also serves as the producer of football on both the VBN and AM 1290 KZSB as well as working as the audio-visual producer and operator of the Daktronics video board inside La Playa Stadium and as a public address announcer for various teams. Additionally, he produces multimedia content for the department’s official website and related social media.
Graff previously served as the Director of Broadcasting and as a Student Assistant Sports Information Director at his alma mater, Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he graduated in May of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Comparative Literary Studies with a Creative Writing Emphasis and minors in Media Arts & Culture and Classical Studies.
Though injury cut Graff’s football playing career short in his freshman season, he kept sports in his life by helping found a more formal student media program at Occidental, working as the Tigers’ main play-by-play voice for 13 of 21 varsity sports on the Occidental College Athletics Broadcasting Network. He also acted as a color analyst and public address announcer for various teams and hosted a weekly sports radio show called Tiger Talk. As the sports editor of The Occidental Weekly — the college’s award-winning student newspaper — for three consecutive years, Graff was responsible for creating, editing and managing content for the print edition of the Weekly as well as digital content for the websites belonging to both the paper and the athletics department.
In his junior year and the ensuing summer, Graff worked as a programming and imaging intern at AM 570 FOX Sports Los Angeles, where he contributed to the then- nationally syndicated Petros and Money Show as a reporter in the field, soundbyte and promo creator and podcast manager.
Graff got his start in the industry in 2011, joining the Home Field Sports broadcasting crew as the color commentator for the Ventura College Pirates football team. He also served as a radio personality, co-hosting Ventura County SportsNite, a show on AM 1400 KKZZ, and assisting the coverage of the Ventura County High School Football Game of the Week on AM 1520 KVTA by operating the boards in-studio, building highlight packages and airing live pre/post game analysis.
Graff has also made guest color commentary appearances for the Visalia Rawhide (the Single-A Advanced affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks) and has worked as a camera operator for the Ventura County Fusion on CAPS TV, as the Sports Director of CRT Broadcasting on The Business of Life — another show on AM 1400 KKZZ — and as a sports reporter for the Ventura Breeze, where he authored a special series on former WBC Welterweight Champion Victor Ortiz.
Graff’s work has been published on RYOT.org and in the Ventura County Star and Santa Barbara News-Press. He has received various awards in the area of broadcast journalism, including a Society of Professional Journalists Sports Writing Mark of Excellence and two scholarship nominations from the Southern California Sports Broadcasters in conjunction with FOX Sports West/Prime Ticket.
