SBCC’s Alex Heuchert took fifth in the men’s 1500 on Saturday at the 64th CCCAA State Track & Field Championships at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
Distance runner Ian Roberts, the 2013-14 SBCC Male Athlete of the Year, accepted a scholarship to Arizona State during SBCC’s Spring Signing Day last week.
Bas van Leersum placed fifth in the 400 hurdles on Saturday at the Southern Cal Men’s Track & Field Finals. Alex Heuchert finished eighth in the 1500 (4:03.25) in the meet at Riverside City College and also earned a berth in the State Finals.

On a cool day with plenty of wind, SBCC took home three WSC individual titles on Friday in the WSC Men’s Track & Field Championships at Antelope Valley College. Michael Orosco won the hammer throw with a 3-meter PR of 39.88. Bas van Leersum captured the 400 hurdles in 55.54 and Cameo Goree overcame a tough WSC Prelims to win the 200 in 22.67.
The WSC Prelims were held for men’s track and field on Friday at College of the Canyons with four finals staged in field events. SBCC’s Michael Orosco took second in the discus final (40.27 meters) and Scott Santella was second in the javelin (51.12m).
Alex Heuchert ran under four minutes in the 1500 meters and placed fourth in the Coast Classic on Friday, a prestigious men’s track and field meet at Orange Coast Classic that included four-year school Vanguard.

James Herb made up a 5-meter deficit in his 400 anchor leg on Friday and SBCC captured the 800 sprint medley relay in the WSC Relays at Ventura College. Herb, a sophomore from Mendem, N.J., ran 50.7 for the victory with teammates Nick Smith (100m), Riley Nunes (100) and Cameo Goree (200).
Bas van Leersum took first in the 400 hurdles in his SBCC debut on Saturday as the men’s Track & Field squad opened its season in the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers Meet.
