12 Vaqueros make All-WSC; Fickerson is Coach of the Year

After winning the first Western State Conference title in at least 45 years, SBCC was well-represented on the All-WSC men’s track and field team.

Bas van Leersum capped off a spectacular season by winning a State title in the 400 hurdles on Saturday in the CCCAA Men’s Track & Field Championships at College of San Mateo.

Aaron Mateski claimed third in the State javelin on Friday, with the No. 3 mark in school history of 192 feet, 4 inches.
Mateski takes third in State javelin, earns All-American status

Aaron Mateski threw a career-best 58.62 meters on Friday to grab third place in the javelin at the CCCAA State Track & Field Championships in San Mateo.

Bas van Leersum captured a Southern Cal Championship in the 400 hurdles on Saturday and three other Vaqueros qualified for next weekend’s State Championships.

Bradley Apodaca ran the 4th-fastest time in school history (32:26.06) in the grueling 10,000-meter final at the Southern Cal Prelims.

Bradley Apodaca ran the fourth-fastest time in school history and took 12th in the 10,000 final on Saturday during the Southern Cal Track and Field Prelims at Cerritos College.

Van Leersum wins twice to spark Vaqueros to WSC title

Bas van Leersum won the 400 meters and 400 hurdles on Friday and SBCC captured the WSC Championship in men’s track and field on its home turf at La Playa Stadium. It’s the first conference title in at least 45 years.

Mateski, McAllister win WSC titles at Conference Prelims

Aaron Mateski and Luke McAllister captured WSC titles in the javelin and high jump, respectively, on Friday in the WSC Men’s Track & Field Prelims at Ventura College.

Aaron Mateski won the javelin against a strong field in the Mt. San Antonio Invitational. His toss of 59.54 meters was second-best in school history.

Aaron Mateski took first in the javelin on Saturday at the prestigious Mt. San Antonio Invitational men’s track and field meet in Walnut.

Marvin Magg won the shot put and the javelin on his way to 32 points.

Marvin Magg scored 32 points and Bas van Leersum added 24 on Friday as SBCC topped the field in the WSC Coastal men’s track and field meet at Cuesta.

SBCC captured a pair of relays on Friday in the 77th Easter Relays men’s track and field meet at La Playa Stadium.

Bas van Leersum broke his own school record in the 400 hurdles and ran a leg on the 4 x 100 squad that posted the 8th-fastest time in school history.
Van Leersum lowers his school mark in Ben Brown Invite

Bas van Leersum lowered his school record with a 53.21 in the 400 hurdles on Saturday in the Ben Brown Invitational men’s track and field meet at Cal St. Fullerton. He shaved 0.11 off the school record time he set three weeks ago.

Tyler Higby notched four wins on Friday, including a come-from-behind anchor leg that propelled SBCC to victory in the 4 x 100 relay in the WSC North men’s track and field meet at Bakersfield College.

Approximately 20 student-athletes from the SBCC men’s and women’s track teams will volunteer on Saturday, Feb. 28 for the Special Olympics Polar Plunge at Leadbetter Beach.

Higby, McAllister post wins at prestigious Soka Invitational

Tyler Higby and Luke McAllister recorded wins for SBCC on Saturday in the prestigious Soka Invitational men’s track and field meet at Aliso Niguel. The event featured seven four-years schools, including UC San Diego and Westmont, plus two other Community Colleges and a few club and unattached athletes.

Magg wins twice in season opener at SLO Town Classic

Marvin Magg claimed first in the javelin (54.08 meters) and shot put (13.77) on Friday as SBCC recorded eight victories in the season-opening SLO Town Classic men’s track and field meet in San Luis Obispo. It was a dual meet between the Vaqueros and Cuesta, plus a group of unattached and club athletes.
