A pair of SBCC sophomores have landed on the All-Western State Conference men’s volleyball team. Drew Hogan, a 6-2 setter from Chico, was a first-team choice and Evan Yoshimoto, a 6-5 opposite from Ventura, made the second team.
SBCC saved the best for last as it upset Long Beach 3-2 on Sophomore Night in a thrilling men’s volleyball finale at the Sports Pavilion.
Evan Yoshimoto had 17 kills and Nick May added 16 on Wednesday night but SBCC still dropped a 3-1 men’s volleyball match at Moorpark. The scores were 25-17, 25-16, 23-25, 25-18.
El Camino used superior serving and passing to down SBCC 3-1 on Friday night in a WSC men’s volleyball match at Torrance. The scores were 25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-16.
Freshman outside hitter Owen Yoshimoto recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs on Wednesday night, leading SBCC to a 3-1 men’s volleyball win at L.A. Trade Tech. The scores were 26-24, 21-25, 25-16, 25-17.
Evan Yoshimoto pounded 13 kills and Nick May added 11 on Wednesday night, guiding SBCC to a 25-22, 25-17, 25-21 men’s volleyball sweep of L.A. Pierce in Woodland Hills.
After losing the first two sets, SBCC stormed back to win the next two on Friday in the Sports Pavilion but couldn’t overcome a slow start in the fifth set and Santa Monica took advantage to post a 3-2 men’s volleyball victory. The scores were 28-26, 25-23, 14-25, 22-25, 15-11.
SBCC played one of its best matches in weeks on Wednesday but still came up short in a 3-1 WSC men’s volleyball loss at Long Beach City. The scores were 25-19, 25-20, 17-25, 25-21.
SBCC had late leads in the last three sets on Friday but couldn’t finish the job in a 3-1 men’s volleyball loss to Moorpark at the Sports Pavilion. The scores were 25-18, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22.
SBCC let big leads slip away in the first two sets on Wednesday night in the Sports Pavilion and El Camino took advantage to post a 3-1 men’s volleyball victory. The scores were 27-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-13.
The “D Boys” came through for SBCC on Friday night in a 25-18, 25-22, 25-20 men’s volleyball sweep of L.A. Trade Tech at the Sports Pavilion.
L.A. Pierce went on scoring runs at the end of each set on Friday night and it added up to a 25-22, 25-21, 28-26 men’s volleyball sweep of SBCC in the Sports Pavilion. Evan Yoshimoto led the Vaqueros (5-4, 0-2 WSC) with 15 kills and Shane Dyer added six while hitting .363.
The middles hit .480 on Wednesday but SBCC’s outside hitters struggled in a 3-1 loss at Santa Monica. The scores of the WSC opener were 26-24, 22-25, 25-21, 25-11.
Nick May pounded a season-high 18 kills and Drew Hogan dished out 36 assists on Friday, leading SBCC to a 25-18, 25-18, 25-23 men’s volleyball sweep over Golden West in the Sports Pavilion.
Nick May had 14 kills on Wednesday night and SBCC recorded a season-high 13.5 blocks in a 3-1 win over Grossmont in El Cajon. The scores were 25-18, 25-20, 21-25, 25-13.
Sophomores Nick May and Evan Yoshimoto combined for 25 kills and only one hitting error on Friday night as SBCC swept San Diego Mesa 25-16, 25-22, 25-17 in the Sports Pavilion.
