10 Vaqueros get AA degrees at 2014 Graduation

Ten SBCC softball players received their Associate of Arts degrees degrees on Friday, May 23 in a ceremony at La Playa Stadium. Ninety-four athletes graduated and 650 students attended the 65th annual Commencement Ceremony.

SBCC pitcher Celeste Acosta and shortstop Alice Cen have been named to the first-team All-WSC Gold Division softball team.

Celeste Acosta pitched a three-hitter and a four-hit shutout and Alice Cen went 4-4 with three RBIs in the nightcap as SBCC swept Moorpark in the last WSC Gold softball doubleheader of the year at Pershing Park.

Portese, Caras provide the power in 10-2 triumph

Briana Portese and Amanda Caras both went 3-for-3 on Thursday with two extra-base hits each, powering SBCC to a 10-2 softball win over Oxnard in five innings.

Vaqueros split twinbill at Ventura

Danielle de Castro went 2-3 with two RBIs on Tuesday, leading SBCC to a 7-3 softball win in the first game of a WSC Gold doubleheader at Ventura. Ventura’s Alex Thorp and the Vaqueros’ Celeste Acosta both pitched three-hitters in the nightcap but the Pirates emerged with a 2-1 victory.

Victoria Lucido homered to lead off the game on Thursday and Celeste Acosta tossed a five-hitter, guiding SBCC to a 5-2 softball win over first-place Cuesta in San Luis Obispo.

Vierra’s homer helps Vaqueros split with Hancock

After missing five games with an injury, Christal Vierra returned to the SBCC softball lineup with a bang on Tuesday as the Vaqueros split a marathon WSC Gold doubleheader with first-place Hancock.

Sophomore Brianna Portese went 2-2 with two stolen bases and four runs.
Stanek throws 1-hitter in 24-0 rout

Taylor Stanek tossed a 1-hitter on Thursday and Alexandra Abbott and Danielle de Castro drove in three runs apiece, sparking SBCC to a 24-0 softball victory over L.A. Pierce. The WSC Gold Division game was called after five innings by the 8-run rule.

Taylor Stanek didn't give up an earned run and pitched a six-hitter for her first collegiate pitching win.
Gill helps Vaqueros split in Bash at the Beach

Brianna Gill went 2-3 with four RBIs on Sunday, guiding SBCC to a 10-6 win over Golden West in the Bash at the Beach fast-pitch softball tournament at Pershing Park. The Vaqueros were shut down in the second game as Alashanee Medina struck out 18 to lead East L.A. to a 7-2 victory.

Vaqueros go 1-1 in their Bash at the Beach

SBCC did plenty of bashing in a 12-7 softball win over El Camino on Saturday in the Bash at the Beach but couldn't find their offense against Fullerton.

Brianna Portese went 2-4 with an RBI, raising her team-high average to .368.
Vaqueros cruise past Moorpark 8-2

Alice Cen, Brianna Portese and Dakotah Wilcox had two hits apiece on Thursday and SBCC posted an 8-2 softball win at Moorpark.

Celeste Acosta tossed her second 1-hitter of the year with a season-high eight strikeouts.

Celeste Acosta tossed a one-hitter in a 6-0 victory on Tuesday, then made a costly throwing error in a 6-4 loss as SBCC split a WSC Gold softball doubleheader at Oxnard.

Christal Vierra hit her 2nd homer of the year in a 9-8 loss to Bakersfield.
Vaqueros drop two at Bakersfield Tourney

SBCC gave up 21 runs on Sunday and lost its final two games at the Bakersfield Tournament.

Alice Cen drove in 2 runs with a 5th-inning double, then stole third and scored on a throwing error as the Vaqueros stunned No. 6 Riverside.
Vaqueros upset No. 6 Riverside 4-3

SBCC was held to six hits on Saturday but still managed to go 1-1 on the opening day of the Bakersfield Softball Tournament. The Vaqueros were blanked by No. 11 Cerritos 8-0 in five innings, then rallied to beat No. 6 Riverside 4-3.

Victoria Lucido went 4-4 with a triple on Thursday as SBCC edged first-place Ventura 4-3 in a WSC Gold softball game at Pershing Park.

Long Beach routs Vaqueros 17-6

Things were looking good for the SBCC softball team after the Vaqueros scored five runs in the second to take a 5-0 lead over Long Beach on Saturday in a nonconference game at Pershing Park. But the Vikings (11-10) turned the tables with a 10-spot in the fourth and went on to beat Santa Barbara 17-6 in six innings.
