SBCC received top honors from the Western State Conference as goalie Mackenzie Richards was named Player of the Year in women’s water polo for the 2015 fall season and Chuckie Roth was the Coach of the Year.

Six wasn’t enough for SBCC on Saturday as the Vaqueros dropped a pair of games on the final day of the Battle at the Beach women’s water polo tournament at Cerritos College. They lost a close 9-6 decision to San Diego Mesa in the morning and then fell to tournament host Long Beach, 13-6.
SBCC had a season-high 18 steals in Friday’s opener of the Battle at the Beach women’s water polo tournament and downed Grossmont 7-3 at Cerritos College. The Vaqueros (13-10) played defending state champion Fullerton (20-2) in the afternoon and dropped a 14-5 decision.

After being tied 10-10 at the end of regulation, the Monarchs scored in the first OT and then in sudden death to edge the defending WSC champions 12-11 at Valley’s pool.
