Vaqs Open WSC Championship With Win Over Ventura

VENTURA, Calif. – No. 2 Santa Barbara City College's women's water polo team took a 15-5 victory against Ventura College yesterday at noon at the Western State Conference Tournament as they look to earn their 11th consecutive WSC Championship.
May Guidoux scored the first Vaquero goal with the help of an assist by Katie Strohl. Guidoux finished the game with 4 goals to push her season total to 62 goals, third in the WSC.
At the end of the first quarter, Jaeda Allen found Leah Rummelhoff, who scored to help SBCC hold a 2-1 lead at the end of the opening frame.
In the second and third quarters, the Vaqueros made a considerable mark on the scoreboard, scoring seven goals in the second quarter and two goals in the third.
Sophomore Ava Pease (3 goals, 1 assist, 1 steal) and Max Kerr (2 goals, 1 steal) both stood out with excellent performances in the pool yesterday.
In the last quarter of the game, SBCC locked in three more goals to solidify their victory.
Ava Barclay continued her stellar season in goal, recording 15 saves.
Despite a slow start to the game, the Vaqueros delivered a standout performance, propelling them to the WSC Championships.
"We are excited to play for a conference championship tomorrow," said head coach Chuckie Roth. "Our girls have worked incredibly hard, and I'm excited for them to have this opportunity."
SBCC competes against Cuesta today to conclude the WSC Championship.
