Taylor Brooks tossed in five goals to break the SBCC single-season scoring record on Friday night and the third-seeded Vaqueros knocked off No. 6 Golden West 10-4 in a Southern Cal Regional quarterfinal at Riverside City College.

Brooks, a sophomore from Honolulu, also had four steals and five drawn ejections. Brooks is the top scorer in California with 126 goals, surpassing the school record of 123 set last year by Emma Fraser.

Annie Ackert added two goals while Hana Wigzell had a goal, two assists and three steals in the eighth straight win by the Vaqueros (29-4). It marked the third time the Vaqueros have beaten the Rustlers this year.

After falling behind 2-1, SBCC scored nine of the next 10 goals to take a 10-3 lead after three periods.

Zoe Johnson gave up one goal with seven saves in just over two quarters in goal. Jayde Maniscalco got the start in goal and played the first quarter and last six minutes of the game.

"We came out to a strong offensive showing, then cleaned up our defense a bit," said Vaquero coach Chuckie Roth. "Jayde and Zoe both played great in goal and we were able to run a patient offense.

"It was the best game we played against them all season. I thought we did a really good job of controlling the game."

The Vaqueros will battle No. 2 Riverside for the third time this year in Saturday's semifinals at 12:15 p.m. The winner will advance to Saturday's championship game at 4:30 p.m. The Vaqueros took the first meeting 12-8 and the Tigers won the rematch 7-6 on Oct. 26 at the Long Beach Tournament.
